That is a beautiful compliment right there. And yet, despite repeated assurances that women aren’t particularly sexual creatures, in cultures around the world men have gone to extraordinary lengths to control female libido: female genital mutilation, head-to-toe chadors, medieval witch burnings, chastity belts, suffocating corsets, muttered insults about ‘insatiable’ whores, pathologizing, paternalistic medical diagnoses of nymphomania or hysteria, the debilitating scorn heaped on any female who chooses to be generous with her sexuality … all parts of a worldwide campaign to keep the supposedly low-key female libido under control. Why the electrified high-security razor-wire fence to contain a kitty-cat?

because female sexual appetites - the fact that we are often multi-orgasmic, seeking more pleasure after the man is well and truly spent - has, before contraception, been a threat to paternity and the certainty of the paternal line… if our desire was allowed to run unchecked we might fuck and fuck and fuck, and who knows whose child we carried in our womb? (note: this developed long long before DNA tests, and it is well and truly embedded) I think this might be an explanation for why this paternalistic mindset that our sexuality must be checked developed in the first place, and why the myth persists that women are just not interested in sex.
Truth. I also find that one of the great ironies of our patriarchy, such as it is, is that the more it attempts to deny women power, the more it tacitly acknowledges the power of women.
This is right up my girls alley! :D
